That’s what readers can expect from Zombie Ducks by Candace Nola, an extreme horror novelette that will have both adults and kids trying to escape with their lives.

Before I started reading this book, I had no idea what to expect. From the title and cover, I thought, Ok, zombie rubber duckies. What harm could there be?

I was surprised to find out!

Candace Nola takes the beloved bath toy and turns it into a zombie in this extreme horror story, Zombie Ducks. Told from the POV of 6-year-old Kane, this was a cute story to read.

And I say “cute” because Kane is cute in how he decides to fight back against zombies that are attacking his neighborhood.

Yes, zombies. Those undead creatures we see in movies and read about in stories.

Except for Kane, fiction becomes reality!

How zombies happened after a huge chemical plant explosion is explained, so it’s acceptable that there are zombies in this story.

But what’s horrifying is that not only are people infected, but so are toys! Even pool toys!

Even the toys left in a kid’s backyard. Like a dodgeball.

But get this: Not only are the toys zombified, they are also enhanced to have real sharp teeth and they grow huge!

So Kane is a little shocked when he sees a bunch of ginormous dodgeballs kill one of his neighbors.

“Ball after ball slammed into the man. Kane heard bones snapping, the squelch of wet flesh, and saw sprays of blood. He heard the old man whimpering as he begged for it to stop. Kane was horrified and fascinated at the same time. Death by dodgeball didn’t seem like a good way for anyone to die.”

Yikes! No kidding! I still cringe when thinking of the days I endured the torture of dodgeball in school!

So, toys are attacking people. And so of course, Kane thinks he should fight toys with toys.

Specifically, his army of rubber duckies.

But after the rubber duckies are zombified, they grow HUGE! With sharp teeth!

Of course, this terrifies Kane, but he forces himself to be brave, taking on the role of a sergeant as he commands his army of zombie rubber duckies to fight the zombies!

The neighborhood is under attack! And it’s up to Kane and his army of zombie rubber duckies to save the day!

 

Zombie Ducks is a surprising, horrifying tale of zombie toys fighting other zombie toys. A terrifying tale filled with horror and gore, this story was an entertaining and frightening read.

Hungry for a bit of flesh-eating extreme horror? Then look no further than Flash Feast: Guts & Gore by C.A. Baynam. Just the name of the author lets me know that I'm in for some good scares with her book, and this one certainly fit the bill! 

 

These stories were horrifying. They scared me so bad that I was cringing in my seat and looking over my shoulder!

 

The writing is so well-down. Baynam excels at establishing mood and setting in a story. I also liked how she made the stories believable with logical explanations. I was never left guessing about anything!

 

But the stories themselves are told really well, too. I got goosebumps reading each story! And each story was better than the last!

 

The first story, “The Cannibal Carousel,” had me wondering what it could be about. But as I read this eerie and mesmerizing tale, I understand just where the “cannibal” part of the story came from. So much guts and gore in this story! (Well, the book’s subtitle DOES warn of this!) It was gory and gruesome and I was blown away by how creative it was. And just how such a thing could happen! I seriously want to know the backstory of that carousel. Was it cursed in the past? Created by some madman who himself was a cannibal?? Either way, it was a very enjoyable and creepy story!

 

And just when you think you’ll get a reprieve from the guts and gore with the next story, “Web of Insanity,” think again! This story was so good! It kept me guessing! I don’t like spiders, so all of those spiders in the story made it creepy enough to read!

 

And the last story was spectacular too! Here again, I was trying to figure the story out before I got to the end, but the twist in this story was TOTALLY unexpected! I did not see it coming! It made the story’s ending all the more satisfying and enjoyable.

Even nurses and doctors get fed up on the job. The thing of it is, they never show it. You may catch them yawning then laughing it off, or showing a bit of frustration when things go wrong, but we hardly ever see them literally lose their shit. We never see them lose it and go on a murder spree against ALL of the patients that have aggravated them over the years.

 

That is, until now.

 

Jerry Blaze offers a horrific picture of one nurse and one doctor who go batshit crazy one night and start killing patients in his latest novella, Scalpel in the Eye. Oh, but it’s not just the patients they have in their sights, but other doctors and nurses who have also aggravated them and made their lives miserable.

 

Because, you know, coworkers can really suck sometimes. And we ALL have fantasized about setting them on fire, knocking their head off – or, in this case, attacking them with a scalpel to the eye. I mean, if you’re already in a hospital, you use whatever weapon will suffice, right?

 

But, my goodness, those scalpels must be made of razor-sharp steel, or something, because not only is it used to sever a spine but also to cut someone’s head off.

 

This story was entertaining because it allowed me to see a human side to a nurse and a doctor that we hardly get to see. I’m sure MANY of them have experienced frustration and aggravation on the job, especially with being so tired after working for several hours on their feet, but I never see this side of them. Here, the nurse has no qualms about allowing her inner homicidal maniac to run loose. She even gets to a point where she starts giggling, cackling with glee, and doing happy dances over her next slaughter. 

 

This story is a parade of blood. I laughed over the doctor describing a victim “dead as fuck.” The repeated verbal exchange of "Excellent work, Doctor" and the doctor's reply of "Thank you, Nurse" after killing someone also made me laugh. You hear that a lot during normal medical procedures, but not after said doctor and nurse have just slaughtered someone in a very creative way. I also  appreciated the details that went into each killing of the victims.

 

Scalpel in the Eye is loaded with guts and gore. It’s one night of endless murder and mayhem wrecked by one nurse and one doctor who are fed up with everyone’s bullshit.

 

Do you have the stomach to read Scalpel in the Eye by Jerry Blaze? If so, the doctor will see you now. Please follow the nurse into the room. Never mind the blood, guts and gore covering her uniform or staining her teeth. They are ready to provide you with the very best of care your insurance money, or lack of insurance money, can buy.
